Why HDF?
Our Bases
are made from (HDF) high-density fiberboard, also called Masonite, which is an
engineered wood product first marketed in the
Most Cost Effective: HDF is the most cost effective base
material we have ever tested. With GF9 Box-O-Bases™, for example, a pint of
25mmx25mm square bases cost approximately $0.06 per base. In a quart sized Box-O-Bases™, the price
drops to about $0.05 each. Now that’s value!
Most Warp Resistant of wood type
products: HDF is
the most warp resistant of all the wood products on the market. Some people claim
plywood is a better material: they are simply wrong. If you paint one side of a plywood base and
leave the other side unpainted, over time the plywood will start to cup towards
the painted side. The larger the base, the more pronounced the warp. Hobby Tip! - To help eliminate this problem,
paint both sides of the base to reduce this effect. Unfortunately, most
plywood bases still warp and bend over time.
Most Consistent: The structural consistency of HDF
produces superior density, strength, thickness and color to any other wood
based products currently on the market. HDF is free of the defects often found in
cheap plywood – knots, splinters, cracks, etc.
