GF9’s best-selling gaming aid has been taken back to the drawing board and redesigned to make it even better! The Multi-Template Mark II offers a superior level of playability, durability and visual appeal.



The more compact shape allows a player to get the template into tighter spaces on the battlefield; such a whirling close combat where toy soldiers are tightly packed. We have also eliminated any extended, weaker points on the template. This greatly cuts down the chance that the template may crack or even break at one of the joints since the narrow parts are gone. Last, but most certainly not least, we made the Mark II neon orange. Try losing this template on a tabletop! Not going to happen! Game ON!


One question has been asked more than any other regarding the Mark II Multi-Template: Why would GF9 redesign a product that they sell thousands of each year? The answer is very simple: We listened to the feedback from players all around the world and recognized that there was room for improvement on an already great product. This is how the Mark II came about...player input matters!

The Multi-Template MK II will be in stores worldwide as part of Gale Force Nine's dynamic new line of Gaming Aids releasing this summer. The template can also be purchased from the GF9 Online Store!

To our disappointment, Privateer Press has chosen not to renew the Warmachine and Hordes accessories license with GF9 in favor of producing their own range of gaming aids. (See “Privateer Press, Inc. announces new gaming tokens for WARMACHINE and HORDES”, May 23, 2008, www.privateerpress.com!).

This announcement will affect all Privateer Press™ licensed products including branded tokens, templates, terrain and dice tins for both Warmachine™ and Hordes™. The tokens, templates and dice tins will be available for direct sale through July 26th, 2008. Terrain sets will be available through September 16th, 2008. After this sell-through period, the tokens, templates and dice tins will no longer be available direct from GF9.

We have enjoyed creating the most successful range of branded accessories for Privateer Press games in the industry. The fearsome warjacks and dark industries of Cryx are fueled by a charnel material known as Necrotite. Necrotite is created at sites of bloodshed and slaughter where the earth itself has been stained by agony and death. We at GF9 were saddened to hear that Gary Gygax, co-creator of Dungeons & Dragons, passed away today at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

Gary was a born story teller and a wonderful person to talk with in person. Gary's rules and fantasy universe was the original reason many of us "Gamers" got exposed to role playing and the hobby industry to begin with.

We will miss you, but your game, stories and imagination will live on forever.

MILWAUKEE - Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.

Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

Gygax always enjoyed hearing from the game's legion of devoted fans, many of whom would stop by the family's home in Lake Geneva, about 55 miles southwest of Milwaukee, his wife said. Despite his declining health, he hosted weekly games of Dungeons & Dragons as recently as January, she said.

"It really meant a lot to him to hear from people from over the years about how he helped them become a doctor, a lawyer, a policeman, what he gave them," Gygax said. "He really enjoyed that."

Dungeons & Dragons players create fictional characters and carry out their adventures with the help of complicated rules. The quintessential geek pastime, it spawned a wealth of copycat games and later inspired a whole genre of computer games that's still growing in popularity.

Funeral arrangements are pending. Besides his wife, Gygax is survived by six children.

Urban War: Strike-Team Actions is a fast paced sci-fi skirmish game set in a brutal far-distant universe. Players build small teams of soldiers to fight in the war-torn city planet of Iskandria, the scene of countless vicious conflicts between competing factions, now also threatened by aggressive alien incursions.

Metropolis is a fast paced sci-fi battle game set in the same brutal universe as Urban War. However the war in Iskandria is escalating and the initial skirmishing is developing into full-blown military conflict. In response, all the warring factions are throwing in ever-increasing numbers of fresh troops, including heavier armoured elements. The focus shifts from the individual to the squad, and players take command of armies, or ‘battle-forces’, containing several squads.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Fellow Gamers, Hobbyists of all kinds…it’s time for that great trek to Indianapolis! Once again the GF9 crew has made the preparations, loaded the trucks with cool stuff, and gotten ourselves primed and ready for the show! We’re all excited to show off the cool, new surprises we’ve designed in time for the convention.

As we well know, our customers expect and demand some new GF9 sweetness at GenCon. This time we are locked and loaded with a one, two punch that is sure to make you go, WOW! Let’s take a look…




Warmachine Terrain Sets (Sneak GenCon Preview!)

The first two of four sets of our pre-painted Warmachine Themed Terrain will be on hand for your viewing pleasure. Here are some pictures that show off what we mean.





The first two sets in this exciting new series of pre-painted, centerpiece terrain items from GF9 include: The Khador Avalanche Cannon and Cygnar Storm Research Station. These two amazing pieces are visually stunning. They add flavor and feel to your battlefields. Also, these special terrain sets won’t hit the store shelves for almost three months. You get to see them in this crazy early preview. This is the first chance you’ll get to see, handle and purchase some of these new sets. Wait…purchase? Did we just say “purchase”? That’s right! We did! We wanted to bring a special treat to GenCon so we had a few of the Khador and Cygnar Terrain Sets air shipped to reach us in time for the show. Numbers are incredibly limited and sales are first-come, first-serve so get yourselves on over quick to booth 1411 and check out the hotness. It’ll blow away your opponent when they see how cool these pieces are.




In addition to the really cool terrain sets, the fine folks at Privateer Press have graciously allowed us to make special “Faction Specific” Template Sets for both Hordes and Warmachine. These templates are show exclusives, so be sure to get yours while you are at the event. Each faction has its specific logo and associated color on the template set. They look great, are easy to see which faction you’re playing, and also allow you to spot when your buddy ‘borrows’ your templates without asking. Come and get ‘em while we got ‘em. Supplies are limited so first come, first kill.

Do we have anything else for you all to check out? Absolutely, yes! But we’re gonna make you come to the show to find out. After all, we have to leave a few surprises for the show. As many people may or may not know, a rapidly growing segment of the GF9 business is devoted to the creation of high end gaming scenery and table top terrain.

Recently, we received a commission from an advid gamer who wanted us to create a gaming table themed around the War in Iraq. The table was to be scaled for use with Mongoose Publishing's Battlefield EVO pre-painted miniatures game.

Gale Force Nine’s Warmachine Cloud Effects Markers are designed to effectively denote continuous Cloud Effects on the table top with a dynamic 3-D marker while still maintaining playability. These markers are the ideal solution to indicate attacks such as The High Reclaimer’s Burning Ash or the Breath of Corruption from the Iron Lich Asphyxious.

Once placed on the table, the center cloud piece may be easily rotated or removed from play to allow models to move through the cloud region as necessary. The color coordinated 3” diameter outer ring remains in place to mark the exact location of the cloud.

Each marker set is manufactured from colorful, high quality translucent acrylic. Each pack contains one complete marker. Pictures show multiple packs of effects in action.

Once a respected nautical warcaster for the Mercarian League, Captain Phinneus Shae has turned to piracy aboard the Talion. Shae is a wanted man but refuses to allow the bounty on his head to get in the way of earning a profit as a sword for hire. His powers over wind and storm serve as well on land as at sea, and few can stand against him blade to blade.

Choose your Warcaster; then choose your token set. Each set of tokens is specifically designed to contain every counter, marker or token needed to play IK Warmachine with your given Warcaster.
